wow its been a month since i've updated this thing. Life....wow...
just wow.
so amazing.
TKE...awesome...
So Rhea's the bestest girl friend ever. its been some of the best 1.75 months of my life. and saying some of the funniest shit. too bad they cannot be shared at this time. but dont worry, we got em written down somewhere. so one day HA!
now...the topic i'd like to talk about today is...
what are you doing with your life? are you happy? do you feel like you are wasting college...the best years of your life?
So i was reading a friend's xanga recently and he talked about how you measure if you're life is "good" or not and he listed: grades, free time, relationship, money and faith. as some possible criteria.
Now looking at your life now, what are you doing with it?
In my oppinion there are two extremes out there.
the NERD:
He gets a 4.0, get through college and work their asses off for the rest of their lives getting rich. Problem is...they're missing out on the best days of your life. college. and possibly more things after that. what is the point of speeding your way through college, graduating in 2 years with honors and spending everysecond of your time studying? when you get to being 60 driving your mercedes around, how will you reflect back on your college years...They are the best times of your life. do you really want to only remember cramming for midterms in the library all day? its either that or playing computer games 10 hours a day. if you are this type of person.....are you happy?
the Drunk:
This is the guy that has a 2.02 GPA, barely manages to stay in college, gets drunk every night and spends the whole college years drinking, getting high and sleeping. chances are, you're too drunk most the time to go to class or get involved in anything you'll remember the next day. college may be fun, but those drunk memories dont last. what about the times after that? chances are, you wont get very far in life. you'll probably end up making a low wage, getting in fights with your wife over financial problems, and probably have a shitty life afterwards.
now those are probably the two extremes. but from what i see, most people i see around me fit into those two categories.
now theres the third person, that i personally strive ot become.
now most people have heard lots of shit about fraternities and how fucked up they are. i mean i was one of those people. i was against it up till the day i decided to join one. yea you hear a lot of stuff about how all they do is drink their life away. When you think of a a "frat guy" you think of the DRUNK. In a sense, yea that can be true. there are guys who party hardy. but most fraternity guys are not all about that. One thing i've noticed when i went to the library last quarter is...aside from the NERDS, lots of the other guys are part of a fraternity. they are not all drunks. from my pledge class of 3 people, we have higher GPA's than over 90% of the kids here. Being a part of a fraternity forces you to manage your time better. These are guys you call brothers, the guys that your kids will call "uncle" in the case of my pledge bro sean q, my kids will call him "uncle spanky" one day. and his kids will call me "uncle dimsum"
i still remember freshman year of college. sitting in front of my computer in my dorm room, playing diablo2 or starcraft all day. i played a good 8 hours of games a day. Looking back on that, it was SUCH a waste of time. my god, i would have done so much more with that time. i did not study much, who knows how i pulled the grades i did. Life away from home was fun and exciting......but it was missing something.
after joining Teke, i stopped playing computer games. Yea it took a lot of time commitment. But it also taught me to manage my time better. i've had so many memories that i will never forget. Like the time i got hog tied by my bros because they wanted to make sure i didn't drive while i was drunk. Sure they fucked with me...spray painted my hair red, wrote stuff on me in red permanent pen and duct taped my wrists and feet together. But the memory of escaping by biting through 8 layers of duct tape wth my teeth for 30 min and ripping off the duct tape while taking off a patch of hair on my arm...i will never forget. Or going to sonoma state's Teke chapter during halloween for their halloween dance when i danced with a 4 foot midget. Just fun times.
Aside from all the fun, Teke is about striving to become the well rounded, perfect man. Thriving in all aspects of life. The athlete, scholar, whatever. so why are you still sitting in front of your computer or getting plastered everynight? why are you not a part of something great. something nearly a quarter million of the most successful men are a part of. TKE. hell...Ronald Reagan was a teke. elvis presley. The big Show, terry bradshaw, Conrad M hilton, the man who started hilton hotels.....and the list goes on and on and on.
so why are you not a Teke? |
